about
This is my love song to the campfire. On the New Moon, when the sky is darkest we could do some pickin' round the fire. After the you know what is over.
This was recorded in a few hours at Mike Coykendall's 4-track cassette studio, as opposed to his higher end studio. Mike is a pleasure to work with. It was recorded HOT to tape through his fine analog gear, no computers involved (until mixing). Nina volunteered to do the harmony, after hearing me sing it live for my very first time, at Laurethirst in Portland, Oregon.
The cover is an LP sized two-color woodcut print, available from me on tour from August-September 2019. It’s ok that there’s just a big dark void right on the cover. That’s what the new moon is, and besides, there are tons more stars visible on that night.
lyrics
New Moon
Come sit by the fireside, ember and spark
Gather round, my dear friends, a hand in the dark
Throw another log on the fire, pass me bottle of wine
I am glad we met here, on this new moon night
On the new moon
New moon night
On the new moon
New moon night
When there is no light in the sky, bring it right down here
When we light our fire, our friends appear
On the new moon
New moon night
If you have a song to sing, you can lay it down here
I love what you bring, and you have my ear
